How to Use the Bala Pilates Method
Watch these videos to get started, how to anchor and move at home with your Bala Pilates Method.
Your Bala Pilates Method can anchor to nearly any sturdy surface in your home: a door, a sturdy railing, a heavy coffee table, a couch, or a table. The best way to see every option are the How To Anchor and Getting Started videos.
Every BPM comes with a 2-in-1 short anchor loop—slip it through the hinge side of any door, close the door, and you’re ready to lengthen and strengthen.
You can also wrap the same anchor around any immovable fixed object 5 inches or less in diameter—open the carabiner, put it through the open loop on the other side, and make sure the carabiner closes completely.
Anchoring anywhere also lets you go low, middle, or high for different exercise angles. The most common height for most exercises is between knee and navel. Always test your anchor first to be sure it cannot slide, come loose, or tip.
The bands feel different from typical weights, so we think the best place to start is the Medium (about 5 to 15lbs of resistance depending on the exercise), because it challenges most levels and abilities and is ideal for the most popular exercises. When you target larger muscle groups like legs and glutes, want deeper stretches, or want more resistance, switch to the Heavy (15 to 25lbs of resistance).
Hand-wash the wraps in cold water and air dry only.
The Bala Pilates Method is designed to work for all fitness levels and abilities. It will assist you in every movement until you are ready to use it for resistance, which makes it ideal for everything from rehabilitation to elite training.
Adjusting the resistance is easy: move closer to the anchor to make it easier or farther away to make it more difficult. When you are near the end of a band's length, up-level to the Heavy. You can also combine two wraps on one limb or the Medium and Heavy together for even more resistance.
The Getting Started Video covers resistance levels and how to attach the wraps to yourself.
Any room or outdoor area with 6 to 8 feet of space in front of your anchor is great. In a smaller space? Wrap the bands around a railing once or twice to shorten them.
The neoprene wraps are designed to accommodate up to a size 14 shoe. As long as there is no tension on the band, the wraps slide open large enough to fit around any hand, foot, or ankle.
Yes. The bands are the size of a small pair of shoes and weigh about 1 pound, perfect for life on the go.
No. The resistance bands are encased in a soft polypropylene safety sleeve that protects you from the bands and the bands from damage.
No. The hands-free resistance is built for stretching, strength training, Yoga, Barre, Boxing, and metabolic (cardio) conditioning.
